French man arrested in Slovenia for crimes committed in Croatia during 1991 war

William Julié commented on the situation of one of his clients, Mr Djordje Radujkovic, a French citizen of Serbian origin who was arrested and detained in Slovenia on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued by Croatia for political reasons. He explains that extradition would be contrary to the fundamental principle of mutual trust between Member States of the European Union, since France refused to extradite him in 2012 for the same offences. William Julié adds that the request for surrender to the Croatian authorities exposes Mr Djordje Radujkovic to serious violations of his fundamental rights, particularly in view of the fact that he was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment in absentia without having been informed of the proceedings against him.
