William Julié spoke to France Info about the Danish Minister of Justice’s decision to release his client, Paul Watson, and to refuse his extradition to Japan.
The main reason for the decision was the lack of any guarantee that the period Paul Watson spent in detention in Greenland would be deducted from the sentence to be served in Japan. It also refers to the nature of the offences with which Paul Watson is charged, the length of time he has been in detention, and the fact that he has already spent far too much time in detention.
However, the Red Notice published in the Interpol Information System at Japan’s request remains active. The Firm will file a request to the Commission for the Control of Interpol’s Files to ensure that it is removed and that no other form of data is published at Japan’s request.
