Camille Gosson comments on the situation of Evghenia Gutul, Governor of Gagauzia in Moldova, on the occasion of her appeal trial, which is being held until 6 November 2025. This appeal follows her conviction to seven years’ imprisonment in proceedings marked by serious violations of her fundamental rights.
She denounces new violations that occurred during these proceedings, in addition to those already reported, including the suspension of one of Evghenia Gutul’s lawyers, Sergei Moraru, preventing him from attending several hearings, following a complaint filed against him by the Public Prosecutor’s Office for his comments criticising the political nature of the first instance decision.
Camille Gosson announced that Evghenia Gutul’s defence team has already filed a complaint with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers. Appeals are also being prepared to the United Nations Human Rights Committee, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the European Court of Human Rights, denouncing the systematic violations of their client’s personal and political rights.
