Camille Gosson was invited to comment on the legalization of euthanasia and assisted suicide in France, as the bill is currently examined by the Parliament.
She recalled how sensitive this topic is in France since the Vincent Lambert case. “Suicide tourism” is also increasing as an important number of French citizens travel abroad to have access to assisted suicide, such as Pierre Cousein, a 48 year-old man suffering from the Parkinson disease who decided to die in Belgium this week.
Camille Gosson also explained how the European Court of Human Rights does not grant a right to death and therefore leaves a great margin of appreciation to States to legalize this practice or not.
