
William Julié commented on INTERPOL’s decision to withdraw the red notice issued by Japan against Paul Watson, which had been in force for nearly fifteen years. The fact that Paul Watson was able to travel freely between France and the United States during this period shows that both countries considered the Japanese prosecution to be disproportionate from the outset. William Julié pointed out that, although the Japanese arrest warrant against Paul Watson remains active, its removal from INTERPOL’s Information System reduces the risk of arrest in any country other than Japan.
