France repatriates 51 women, children from Syria camps

William JULIÉ explains that since France was heavily pressured by the international community, whether it was by the UN Committee on children rights or requests before the European Court of Human Rights, France finally allowed for the repatriation of women and children in Syrian camps. Their future will depend on the mothers’ testimonies and their possible link with jihadism. Pending trial, they will be arrested and incarcerated while the children will be temporarily placed in foster care. A reintegration policy has yet to be defined.
