
Maître William Julié was invited on France24 to debate the conviction Marine Le Pen. The French far right’s political party leader was convicted on 31 March 2025 for misuse of public funds and sanctioned to an immediatly enforceable ban to run for the next French presidential election in 2027.
He provided in depth analysis on the legal grounds of the ban including its link with the law Sappin II. He also delved into and answered the arguments questioning the immediate application of the sanction, the legimacy of the decision and claiming that the magistrates were biased.
He further gave legal perspective on whether this judicial decision strenghens or weakens democracy in the context of the upcoming 2027 presidential election and the interactions between judicial and political power.
